Champaign-Urbana Public Health District

The Champaign-Urban Public Health District's Wellness and Health Promotion Division is a grantee of the Illinois Department of Human Services' Personal Responsibility Education Program or PREP. Through the PREP grant, CUPHD's health educators teach the Making Proud Choices! curriculum in area middle schools and high schools. Typically, this consists of a health educator having a guest speaking role during students' regularly scheduled health class. Making Proud Choices! is an 8-module, age-appropriate, evidence-based sexual health curriculum for 12-18 year olds. At the completion of the MPC curriculum youth will have:

Since the beginning of the sexual health education program at CUPHD, Health Educators have implemented comprehensive sex education lessons in the following schools:

Through the PREP program, CUPHD Health Educators were able to teach comprehensive sex education lessons to 697 youth in Champaign County during the 2015-2016 school year and over 1,000 youth in the 2016-2017 school year. We look forward to the continuation of comprehensive sexual health education services to youth in the Champaign-Urbana area.

Coalition for Comprehensive Sex Education

CUPHD is also the chair of the Coalition for Comprehensive Sex Education or CCSE. The Coalition for Comprehensive Sex Education is a group of professionals, parents, teachers, and students that meets regularly to address the sexual health educational needs of the community.
