Recognizing the community need for data related to health issues, the Public Health District initiated contact with the Department of Community Health to develop a centralized data system that would provide a wide array of county-specific health information in a web-based format. This system will go beyond that of the IPLAN data system currently operated through the Illinois Department of Public Health.

It is anticipated that the design and methods used to develop the database will serve as a model for other states and communities. Working with public health district staff, faculty at the University of Illinois will be coordinating the project. Through this partnership, sources of information kept at multiple Champaign County area offices and other public agencies will be coordinated into a central repository, with the University of Illinois and the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District working to identify and catalog various information sources.
