May is Healthy Vision Month, a national eye health observance established by the National Eye Institute. Healthy Vision Month is designed to elevate vision as a health priority for the nation. Because high blood glucose and high blood pressure from diabetes can damage the eye, information about eye health is especially important for people with diabetes.
Check out the Diabetes and Healthy Eyes Toolkit and the "Watch out for your vision! If you have diabetes, read this story" booklet, available from the National Eye Institute's publications catalogue, and NDEP's Working Together to Manage Diabetes: A Guide for Pharmacists, Podiatrists, Optometrists, and Dental Professionals (PDF).
