Genetics Referrals

photo

CUPHD seeks to increase the availability of genetic services to families who have a child or family member with a heritable condition. We conduct genetic screening to assess a client's family history and determine if he or she is at risk for certain genetic diseases. We also provide educational materials about inherited diseases.

Genetics clients include families with a suspected or confirmed disorder found as a result of newborn screening; those found to have a positive family history for a chronic disease, such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes; and families or caregivers who have experienced a sudden, unexpected infant death.

Clients identified with genetic concerns will be referred to genetic centers or outreach satellite clinics for further counseling, diagnosis, testing, and treatment as necessary.
