Safe Kids Trends

Safe Kids Worldwide is a global network of organizations whose mission is to prevent accidental childhood injury, a leading killer of children 14 and under. More than 450 coalitions in 16 countries bring together health and safety experts, educators, corporations, foundations, governments and volunteers to educate and protect families.

Within the United States, injury prevention efforts are carried out by more than 300 grassroots coalitions in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Safe Kids Champaign County is one of those coalitions.

Safe Kids was founded in 1987 by Children's National Medical Center with support from Johnson & Johnson. The first full year of funding for Safe Kids in the United States was 1988. Therefore, 1987 data is used as a benchmark to establish trends.
